About the role

The primary role of the library volunteer is to check-in/check-out books, reshelve books, and assist the Librarian as needed during class time. On occasion there may be other jobs throughout the year including, but not limited to, labelling books, preparing signage, re-arranging the collection and decorating the library for holidays.

There are 24 classes that visit the library each week. Each library session should ideally have one volunteer present. As such, volunteers are requested to commit to a weekly 30-40 minute session to ensure consistency and coverage. Volunteers are welcome to sign-up for any library session, whether it be for their own child’s class, another class with a more suitable time, as well as multiple classes, as any additional help is very much appreciated. If there is more than one library volunteer for a particular class, the volunteers may arrange among themselves how best to share the role (e.g. two volunteers for the same class could work alternating weeks).

Please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher to find out their designated session time, or click here for the weekly schedule to see if there are other times that may better suit your schedule. All library volunteers assisting during school hours must be cleared and authorized by the Burlingame School District. If you are not yet cleared but wish to be, please get in touch with the school’s Secretary to start the process.
